The Mission

Fear. Grief. Uncertainty. Hunger.  To live for one day combating those feelings can feel like an eternity.  Imagine how that must feel to endure for the past five months.  It's been five months since the 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince, which now even young children can readily identify, as the capital of the devastated nation of Haiti.  For days following the earthquake many of us, particularly those in Southern California, asked ourselves what would we do if that quake had hit here?  Where would we turn?  What would we expect the response of the world to be?

Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.

The young people of San Bernardino county are being asked for their help.  Through different youth-oriented organizations in our county young people are going out and seeking relief supplies that will be sent on to the young people of Haiti, and their families.  Youth from Music Changing Lives, Art Changing Lives and C.A.S.A. have begun to do what seemingly many adults have already put on the back burner; continue to help the people of Haiti.  On May 29th, in Redlands there will be a Collection Event to recognize the efforts that the youth (and adults) of San Bernardino County have made in support of the people from a country thousands of miles away.  This effort will continue for as long as necessary as we all recognize that rebuilding a nation and empowering a people takes patience, persistence and love.

Please bring at least five items from the relief supply list that can be found on the relief supplies list.  Let the people of Haiti know that the folks in San Bernardino county have not forgotten them and they are a nation remembered. As adults, we are asking you to get involved to set the example to our youth.  This is rough…but the notion is there.

"If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?"  But... the good Samaritan reversed the question:  "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?"  ~Martin Luther King, Jr.  I love this quote but not sure yet how to work it in.

Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.
